What’s Reddit
You may not be familiar with Reddit. Reddit is a social media website where users submit content, and users either upvote it or downvote it. Users are rewarded with fake points called karma if they get a lot of upvotes.
Users submit links. Others either upvote or downvote those links.
Users who persistently submit links that are upvoted attain karma. Users who persistently submit links that have been previously posted (reposts) are frequently downvoted.
Downvoted articles tend to be hidden from view, or ranked very far down the page. Upvoted articles typically make their way out of their individual community of interest, called a subreddit, and land on the front page.
The jargon you might hear is that Reddit “the gamification of content curation’. That means the website turns scavenging and submitting interesting content into a game.
